Prophetic Voice Needed in Anaheim "The Assemblies of God came into being as a result of the Pentecostal revival that began early in the twentieth century. This revival came as God's mighty supernatural answer to Modernism, the anti-supernatural religious liberalism that was taking over the major Christian denominations in America and around the world. Books written to defend the faith were being ignored by the seminaries that trained their ministers. The possibility of God-given miracles was denied. A spiritual vacuum was developing." -- William W. Menzies and Stanley Horton: "Bible Doctrines: A Pentecostal Perspective" Posted by John Kilough In just a few days we will gather in Anaheim California for the Assemblies of God General Council. The Assemblies of God finds itself today at the same place the mainline denominational churches found themselves in the early twentieth century. Today's church is sick with postmodernism and a liberal mind-set and it is killing them spiritual. Today in the Assemblies of God our doctrines, values, principles, teachings, and traditions are under attack, yet when a voice of concern is raised, it is ignored as an out-of-date concept and regarded as a prejudiced view. It is possible, that out of the dust of Anaheim there will raise up a prophetic voice that will lead the Assemblies of God back to the altar and holiness. However, it is also possible that the Holy Spirit will choose another group to take up the standard of holiness and the Pentecostal message the world so desperately needs to hear. The postmodern world does not need an anemic, weak-kneed, sin laden church, but a Pentecostal church; full of the miracle working power of God! Dear Lord, help us to pray Thy perfect will! "If My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray, and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and will heal their land." – 2 Chronicles 7:14 (MEV) |
